SCMP LAUNCHES “100 TOP TABLES 2019” WITH FOUR NEW AWARD CATEGORIES

HONG KONG, 15 March 2019South China Morning Post, a leading media company in Hong Kong, yesterday announced the launch of the seventh edition of 100 Top Tables – A Fine Dining Guide, the definitive guide to the best restaurants in Hong Kong and Macau for premier business leaders.

Modern diners are increasingly discerning and expect sophistication not only in cuisine but also ambience and service. Hence this year’s guide aims to cater to this growing trend and celebrate new awards for Best Chef, Best Ambience, Best Private Room, and Best Service. The inaugural winners are:

  • Best Chef – Umberto Bombana
  • Best Ambience – Old Bailey
  • Best Private Room – Jade Dragon
  • Best Service – Épure

“If you give the diner the best service in good surroundings, and serve quality ingredients, and focus on the diner, that’s when people start recognising you when you focus on the diners,” said chef Umberto Bombana, winner of the “Best Chef” award.

This year’s highly anticipated edition features 100 Hong Kong and 20 Macau-based restaurants, making it a must-have for senior executives searching for the best restaurants for business and pleasure. The exhaustive list was independently reviewed by SCMP’s panel of food critics and lifestyle experts. This year’s judges included a mix of veterans and new inductees to the committee to ensure the results were balanced, objective and comprehensive.

Mr. Gary Liu, Chief Executive Officer at the South China Morning Post, said, “We are thrilled to share the seventh edition of 100 Top Tables with our esteemed readers. Every year, our committee embarks on a rigorous selection process that stays true to SCMP’s commitment to impartiality and integrity. It is our privilege to honour these outstanding restaurants, chefs, and restaurateurs that contribute to the world-renowned culinary landscape of Hong Kong and Macau.”

Ms. Winnie Chung, Editorial Director of Specialist Publications at the South China Morning Post, added, “The dining scene in Hong Kong and Macau is thriving more than ever today, with countless top restaurants from which to choose. While it was especially challenging to put together this year’s guide with another exceptionally strong field, we are confident that we have culled the cream of the crop in executive dining for our readers. These establishments consistently provide noteworthy culinary experiences and we’re delighted not only to celebrate them, but also share them with discerning diners across the region.”

The guide was thoughtfully edited, prioritising overall dining experience as the primary selection criterion and organised by cuisine: Chinese, Western, French, Italian, Japanese, Steak and Grills, and East/West, along with a separate section for Macau. Kindly refer to the list below. Selected in-depth stories about the restaurants can be found at http://www.scmp.com/topics/100-top-tables.

Readers of 100 Top Tables will enjoy an impartial overview of each restaurant, including information on a restaurant’s cuisine and ambiance – from a shortlist of signature dishes and corkage fees to amenities like valet parking and al fresco dining. The guide also provides contact details, including a restaurant’s address and hours of operation.

100 Top Tables 2019 will be available at major bookstores and supermarkets in Hong Kong at a retail price of HK$168 from March 25. In-store copies can be found at a number of premium airport lounges throughout Asia and select recreation clubs.
