SCMP Wins Big at Asian Media Awards

HONG KONG, 10 May 2019 – The South China Morning Post swept a total of six wins at the prestigious annual WAN-IFRA Asian Media Awards, including two golds, two silvers, and two bronzes. The award ceremony was successfully held at the Publish Asia Conference in Singapore this week. 

The Asian Media Awards presented at this year’s Publish Asia conference promote the highest publishing standards in the field.  They cover newspaper and magazine design, infographics, printing, editorial content, marketing, community service, and photojournalism. 

The South China Morning Post was honoured in the following four categories:

  • Gold – Best in Overall Newspaper Design – SCMP
  • Gold – Best in Newspaper Infographics – “The China Ship”
  • Silver – Best in Newspaper Infographics – “Highs and Lows”
  • Silver – Best in Breaking News – “Typhoon Mangkhut”
  • Bronze – Best in Newspaper Infographics – “Life in the Forbidden City”
  • Bronze – Best in Breaking News – “Arrest of Interpol’s Meng Honwei”

Organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, the awards recognise publishers who have adopted digital media and mobile strategies as part of their total product and met major changes in how people consume news and information today.

Prizes were awarded in 10 categories that also covered social media engagement and innovation to engage a young audience.

Publish Asia is a conference that brings together leading executives from Asian newspapers and publishers annually to discuss issues, challenges, and opportunities in the industry.  The conference also recognises outstanding contributions to journalism in Asia.
