SCMP wins two awards at inaugural Asia Podcast Awards

HONG KONG, 11 November 2019 – The South China Morning Post scored two awards at the inaugural Asia Podcast Awards, clinching the ‘Best Entertainment Podcast’ and ‘Best Technology Podcast’ categories. In addition, SCMP’s Inside China’ was a finalist for ‘Asia’s Best Podcast’ category.

The wins highlight audio excellence towards in-depth and diverse storytelling through the podcast medium. SCMP’s podcasts cover a broad range of topics that include politics, technology, crime, food, culture and sport across China, Hong Kong and wider Asia as well as audio long reads of its best magazine features.

‘Eat Drink Asia’ is a monthly podcast that deep dives into the forgotten history of some of Asia’s most popular dishes that have gone global, discovering the human story behind some of Asia’s most loved foods, drinks and condiments with SCMP journalists and dedicated ‘foodies’ Bernice Chan and Alkira Reinfrank, as they speak with chefs, restaurateurs and food experts from across the region. ‘Inside China Tech’ looks into the most important technology trends out of China with SCMP’s Technology Editor Chua Kong Ho and reporter Zen Soo bringing essential background, context and analysis, joined by movers and shakers in China tech and SCMP’s reporters in Hong Kong and the tech centres of mainland China. The two awarded podcasts are produced by SCMP’s Podcast Producer, Yang Yang.

Inside China’, produced by SCMP’s Specialist Production Editor Jarrod Watt, takes a deep-dive into issues and stories for a deeper understanding of contemporary China which allows audiences to discover more about the culture, life and people of China with independent reportage and exclusive interviews that go beyond the headlines.

‘Asia’s podcast industry is rising. Despite the ever-evolving podcasting landscape, SCMP continues to expand our own stable of podcasts and produce entertaining and educative podcasts that tailor to the needs and interests of our audiences’ , said Laura Warne, Digital Editor of the Post.

The Post’s branded content team, Morning Studio, added another feather in its cap by sweeping the ‘Native Advertising and Branded Content’ category in WAN-IFRA Asian Digital Media Awards in late October.

The Asian Podcast Awards, the first podcast awards in Asia which was held at the same time as the Asia podcast Summit, grow Asia’s rising podcast industry through greater awareness and collaboration and recognise podcasters who change the world with messages.
