This strategic enhancement of the SCMP Group’s magazine portfolio further reinforces the strong and longstanding relationship between joint venture partners SCMP Group Ltd and Hearst Magazines International.
The two market leaders began their publishing venture in Hong Kong with the launch of the Hong Kong edition of Cosmopolitan in 1984, Harper’s BAZAAR in 1988, and CosmoGIRL! in 2001; in 2012, the company assumed responsibility for the publication of ELLE and its spin-off titles in Hong Kong. In September 2013, SCMP and Hearst launched the new monthly men’s magazine – ELLE Men.
Esquire is the world’s leading men’s media brand, with 26 editions that reach an audience of millions of intelligent and sophisticated men in print and digital formats.
Adding Esquire to its magazine portfolio cements SCMP Hearst’s position as the foremost publisher of quality international lifestyle publications in Hong Kong, with four leading women’s magazines and two premium men’s magazines in their respective market segments.
Duncan Edwards, president and CEO of Hearst Magazines International, said, “Esquire’s smart, stylish content and unique point-of-view resonates with men around the globe, and we’re pleased to add it to our partnership with SCMP, with whom we have a long and successful relationship.”
Josephine Chan, Managing Director for SCMP Magazines Publishing Ltd added, “It’s very exciting for us to welcome Esquire into our portfolio of magazine titles. We’ve enjoyed a great partnership with Hearst over the years, and our existing titles continue to grow stronger and stronger, both in print and digital. Having successfully built market dominance in the women’s magazine segment, we can now ride on our expertise in premium magazine publishing to expand our edge into the men’s magazine segment. We have solid partnerships with advertisers, and knowledge in effectively reaching out to quality target readers, this new venture not only solidifies our position as the market leader but also conveys our confidence in the men’s magazine segment.”.
