Goldthread showcases new “At Home with Dianxi Xiaoge” series for China-curious in lead-up to Chinese New Year

NEW YORK and HONG KONG, 23 January 2020 – Goldthread announced today the launch of ‘At Home with Dianxi Xiaoge’, a new six-part series featuring an exclusive inside look at the life of the Chinese Internet star, as well as introducing videos on preparing unique Chinese New Year dishes and desserts from Yunnan to mark the festive season.

Dianxi Xiaoge quickly gained popularity with viewers outside of China for her soothing cooking videos. An interview with the influencer from rural Yunnan will be featured in English for the first time when the series kicks off on 6 February on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Dailymotion and Goldthread2.com, followed by five how-to-cook episodes featuring unique Yunnan dishes for the Lunar New Year – including “er kuai”, a savory rice cake, and a fermented rice dessert soup. Dianxi Xiaoge enjoys a following of nearly four million YouTube followers and has a fanbase of 11 million around the world. Her popularity comes from her easy-to-follow cooking videos that feature unique recipes, as well as snippets that reveal her authentic lifestyle and little-known perspectives of rural China. She prepares dishes that are unique to Yunnan, with an emphasis on cuisine from the Dai minority ethnic group. Armed with her one trusty cleaver, she cooks with relatively simple equipment using wood-fired woks.

Dianxi Xiaoge’s new series follows the successful run of Goldthread’s 3-episode collaboration with Li Ziqi, another Chinese internet celebrity also known for her viral videos about lifestyle and cooking in the Chinese rural countryside.

“Goldthread is for young, globally-curious people who want to discover China’s untold cultural stories,” said Victoria Ho, Executive Producer at Goldthread. “We’re proud of our series that showcases an authentic, lesser-known side of China’s food culture and lifestyle through two internet stars in Dianxi Xiaoge and Li Ziqi. We are delighted to have the opportunity to be the first media outside of China they have chosen to share their unique personal stories and lend their authentic voice to Goldthread’s growing narrative on Chinese culture.”

“This was an exciting opportunity to collaborate with Goldthread and showcase Yunnan’s unique culture and cuisine to a broader audience outside of China,” said Dianxi Xiaoge. “I hope viewers will get to know my hometown better and enjoy the dishes and desserts for China’s most important festival in China. ”

Dianxi Xiaoge was interviewed by Goldthread’s Senior Reporter Clarissa Wei, known for her passion for exploring Chinese cuisine outside of the stereotypical dumplings and lo mein, and love for getting inside the minds of expert chefs and hunting the best bits from China’s food scene. Viewers can also watch her other food series “Eat China” on Goldthread.
